(Song I-Chen)
American Gothic draws from Grant Wood’s iconic portrayal of the American rural spirit. Through the upright figures and the Gothic-style house in the background, the original painting conveys a restrained, resolute, and somewhat distant quality of life. In this collaboration, that controlled atmosphere is infused with the image of a Taiwanese native species—the Chinese habu. Found in low-elevation mountain areas and along the edges of human habitation, the habu appears understated, yet possesses strong survival instincts and sharp vigilance, making it one of Taiwan’s most familiar and representative native snakes.
